What you do in the world is up to you!

Runescape isn't a game you can just finish in a week,

and we are adding in more features and quests on a regular basis to ensure there is always something new for you to try!

NOTE : go to the home page and click on ''world map'' here you will see the map of runescape.

it will help you navigate through Runescape.
Its very big especially for members.

-------------------

3.4 Safety Guild

-------------------

Before starting the game you might want to read the official safety guild.

well here it is: RuneScape is a multiplayer adventure so let's face it,

you are going to meet lots of new and exciting friends along your travels.

However please remember you DO NOT know any of these people in real life.

This is not to say that they are not as nice in real life as they act in RuneScape,

they most likely are,
but it's important and best to keep a safe distance from your RuneScape fellow players.

For this reason we have put together some helpful hints so you can be both safe and have fun on RuneScape.

1.
Do NOT tell other players personal information.
Not even if they claim to be Jagex staff!

Don't tell ANYONE your real name,
email address,
home address,
messenger handle or phone number.

Use your RuneScape in game friends list and chat to interact with the other players safely.

2.
If you feel that someone is making you uncomfortable
you should not attempt to carry on a conversation with this person.

Please see our disruptive members guide for details on both how to
ignore these players and report them should they directly insult you.

3.
Chatting of a sexual nature (aka cybering) is strictly forbidden in RuneScape and should someone
approach you in game with this type of chat,
please follow the instructions in our disruptive members
guide and report the player to us.

4.
RuneScape is an ONLINE game.
There is no need to meet anyone in real life.

Remember you only have the other player's word that they are who they say they are.

This includes their gender,
age,
occupation and everything they claim to be.

If you decide against this and do plan to meet a RuneScape player in real life,

please tell your parents or guardian what you are doing and have them assist you on the meet.

DO NOT go alone.

5.
Always keep your parents or guardians informed of how your game is going.

It would be a good idea to introduce them to the game and encourage them to check on you
regularly to ensure that your game remains problem free.

6.
If you need any help we are only an website form away.
Please contact customer support and we will get back to you ASAP.

Have fun and be safe.
That's what RuneScape is all about!

4.0 Control Guild

-------------===============--- -------------

in order to play the game you need to now how.
Or you already now how to play but forgot something.

so i have made an control guild.

---------------------

4.1 MOVEMENT

---------------------

Mov ing around the world:

In order to do anything in the game,
you will first need to learn how to get around the world.

Fortunately movement is quite simple,
and is just a case of pointing the mouse-cursor
at the point on the ground where you would like to go,

and clicking with the left mouse button.

You can make your character run to a spot by holding the CTRL button before clicking where you wish them to move.

A small yellow cross will briefly appear to indicate that the request was received,

then a few moments later your character will start to move.
If the yellow cross appears,

but your character doesn't start walking immediately,
then just wait a few seconds,

as it may take a few moments before anything happens.
Your character will walk
until his/her feet are at the point where you clicked on the ground,

and will automatically work out how to walk around any trees or obstacles which may be in the way.

For those wishing to move around quickly,
you can set your character to run for as long as they have
running energy in your options screen.

INTERACTING WITH ITEMS AND SCENERY:

To interact with an item in the world first point your mouse at it.
Look at the top left of the screen
and you will see a list of things you can do with that item.

For instance if you point at an object you will see that you can 'Take' the object.

To choose the first option listed,
click it with the LEFT mouse button.

To choose from one of the other available options click with the RIGHT mouse button,
and choose the option
you want from the menu which appears.
When you request the action a red cross will briefly appear to indicate it was received.

You may have to wait a few seconds for your character to perform the requested action.

For instance,
in the example on the right,
the player is pointing at one of the characters in the game,

and in this case is given the default choice of "Talk-to Lowe".

By LEFT clicking on the character the player could start a conversation and perhaps buy some arrows.

By RIGHT clicking,
the player could instead access a menu with other available actions.

---------------------------

4.2 USING YOUR INVENTORY

---------------------------

Whenever you pick-up or purchase an item it will be added to your inventory.
To view the items in your inventory,

just click your mouse on the backpack icon on the player interface.

Your inventory has 28 slots available,
plus separate spaces for clothes and weapons and other adornments.

Large items will take up one inventory slot each.

Small items such as money can all be stored in just one slot,
in which case a yellow number at the top
left of the slot indicates how many of that item you are currently holding.

To use an item you are holding,
open your inventory,
and then click on the item you wish to use.

You can then click on another item or person to use the two together.
To drop an item you are holding,

select the "drop" option,
and your character will drop the item on the floor beneath you.

Armour and weapons are an important aspect of the game.
The weaponry you are wielding can often
make the difference between winning and losing a battle.
To wield a weapon,
go to your inventory screen
and click on the item that you wish to wield.

If the item can be worn it will then move to your equipment screen.

Your character has separate slots for each type of weapon or clothing.
To view what you have equipped,

click the man icon on the player interface.

Separate slots show what you are holding on your person at any time.
To remove an item right-click on the slot you wish to change,

and select remove from the list.

The lower equipment status box displays the total bonus your equipped weapons give you.

In the attack section,
you are shown what bonuses are applied to each attack style,
in the defence section,

the bonus refers to how effective your equipped armour/weapon is against a particular style.

Use the scroll bar to scroll down to the other bonuses section,
this displays any other relevant bonuses your equipment may give you.

You will find different combinations of equipment will give you differing bonuses up and down,

dependant on that particular item's strengths or weaknesses.

-----------------------

4.3 CAMERA CONTROLS

-----------------------

T he camera in the game can be rotated by pressing the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard.

Regularly rotating the camera to get the best view of the action is a good idea,

and is sometimes essential to see objects which you would otherwise miss.

You may also adjust the up and down position of the camera by using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard,

using this feature you can move from a behind the player view to a bird's eye view from above.

----------------

4.4 MAP VIEW

----------------

To aid your exploration of the world them have included a map of the surrounding area which will show you what is nearby.

The map is permanently displayed at the top right hand corner of the screen.

Clicking on the map will make your character attempt to walk to the place you have selected.

A red flag appears at the place you clicked so you can see the route clearly.
If the route is blocked,

for example by a closed door then your character won't move and you will need to go a different way or remove the blockage
(e.g.
by opening/unlocking the door).

The map shows nearby items of interest as coloured dots:

Objects are shown as red dots.

Monsters and game-characters are shown as yellow dots.

Other nearby players are shown as white dots.

People on your friends list are shown as green dots.

Fixed location objects such as trees,
fences and rocks each have their own specific graphic to make navigating clearer.

---------------------------- -----

4.5 TRADING WITH OTHER PLAYERS

----------------------------- ----

Trading items with other players is an important aspect of RuneScape and will often allow you to buy and sell
your items at a better price than the shops offer.
Many rare items cannot be purchased in the shops at all
and can only be obtained by finding them yourself,
or by purchase from another player.

Before you start trading you need to find a buyer (or seller).
For instance,
if you have mined some coal
and you want to sell it,
you could try standing in a busy area and saying "Coal for sale!"

Once you have found someone to trade with,
click on their character with the right mouse button,

and select the "trade-with" option.
The other player will be informed of your request,

and to accept your trade they must click on your character and also select the "trade-with" option.

At this point a screen similar to the one shown above will appear.
All the items in the left-hand side
of the screen are what you are offering in the trade,

the items in the right-hand side are what your trading partner is offering you.

To add an item to your offer click on it in the inventory box.

If you wish to add multiple items (e.g.
a stack of coins),
then right click the object
and select the 'offer x' option,
to manually select the number you wish to offer.

To remove an item from your offer,
just click on it in the offer window and it will be removed.

Once you are happy with the proposed exchange,
press the green "accept" button.

If you aren't happy for any reason,
press the red "decline" button to cancel the trade.

A final confirmation like the one shown above will appear.
This clearly lists everything
which is being swapped and gives you one last chance to check you are getting the trade you expected.

You should read this information carefully,
and then once you are sure you are happy with the trade,

press the green "accept" button.

Remember that there is no way to reverse a trade if you later change your mind.

So be careful! Giving items in return for information,
or with the promise of getting them back is very risky.

Not all RuneScape players are honest,
and you could end up losing your items for nothing if you do this!

-------------

4.6 STATS

-------------

To view the stats menu click your mouse on the graph icon in your player interface.

The stats menu shows your skills and equipment status.
Your skills will increase depending on how you play the game.

For instance if you fight a lot of
monsters your attack,
defense,
strength and hits will increase.
If you cook food your cooking will increase,

cutting down trees increases your woodcutting etc...

To determine how close you are to advancing a level,
point your mouse at the skill you are interested in.

The number of experience points you have earnt so far,

and the number you need for the next level will be shown at the bottom of the panel.

Also shown are quest points (QP) that give you the total amount of quest points earned so far,

your current combined combat level,
and your character's total level.

-------------

4.7 SHOPS

-------------

Scattered throughout RuneScape there are many shops where you can buy and sell items.

Most shops will specialise in a certain type of item.
For instance,
the sword shop will only buy and sell swords.

In addition to the specialist shops there are several "General stores" which will buy and sell almost anything.

However,
items in the general stores normally cost slightly more,
and they will pay less for items that you sell to them.

If you take the trouble to find the right shop you can often get a better deal.

To access the shop you must talk to the shop-keeper in the store and choose the conversation option
to indicate that you wish to buy or sell.
Or you can right-click the mouse and choose the "trade" option to go straight
to the shop screen,
without having any prior conversation.
A screen like the one shown below will appear.

This window shows all the items you can buy and sell at the current shop.
In the example here the player is using an archery store
which has various ranging equipment for sale.

Next to each item is a number that indicates the number that the shop has in stock that are available for purchase.

If there is no number next to the item you wish to buy,
that means it is the last one in stock,
so buy it quickly if you want it!

Whenever you are in a shop screen your inventory will be displayed in the interface,

so you will always know whether you have room to buy what you want to or not.

Left clicking with the mouse button on any item will give it's value in GP; clicking an item in your inventory will tell you
how much the shop is prepared to buy the item from you for (if at all),

clicking in the shop window will show how much the shop will sell for.

These two prices will not be the same since the shop buys at a lower price than it sells at
(the shopkeeper is making a hefty profit!).

Right-clicking on the item will open a selection of all options to value,
examine and buy different number of the item selected.

If you wish to sell an item from your inventory,
simply right-click on the item you wish to sell,
then choose the amount
you wish to sell from the list.

The price of items in the shop also depends on the current stock.
If a shop has 500 swords in store it will
sell them at a reduced rate to try and clear stock.
However,
it will also pay less for them if you are selling.

--------------------

4.8 Friend list

--------------------

The friends list allows you to keep in contact with the friends you make in RuneScape.

To access the friend's list click on the smiling face icon in the bottom left corner of the player interface,

this displays the screen to the left.

To add a friend to your list click on the button marked "Add Friend",
and type in the name of the person you want to add.

You will now be informed whenever your friend logs in or out of runescape.

(unless their privacy settings block this - see 'runescape options' below).

Players on your list who are currently playing on the same world as you are shown in green,

players who are playing but on a different world to yourself are shown in yellow,

and players who are not currently playing are shown in red.

You can also send a private message to a person on your list who is playing.

Just click on the players name and when prompted,
type in the message you want to send.

To remove someone from the list, click on the "Del Friend" button and type
in the name of the person that you want to remove.

If there is a particular player who you do not wish to receive messages from,

then first click on the red unhappy face icon,
to access the ignore list.

Then click on the button at the bottom marked "add name" and enter the name
of the person that you wish to block.

--------------

4.9 BANKS

--------------

The Bank of RuneScape

You can only hold 28 items at once (plus weapons and clothing) in RuneScape and carrying around all your money is risky,

because when you die you drop what you are holding.
Therefore you need to have somewhere to
store your extra items and to stash your treasure.

For this purpose the bank of RuneScape has opened branches all over the world.

Branches of this bank can be found in Varrock,
Falador,
Edgeville,
and Draynor village,
and other populated areas.

When you wish to access your in-game bank account,
just walk to the nearest bank
and right-click your mouse on any of the booths there.
The bank screen shown below will appear,

and you can now choose to deposit and withdraw items.

Some banks can be accessed by special bank chests too,
just left click on the chest to access yout bank.

If you have more than one of item in the bank a number will appear next to indicate how many you have.

The bankers aren't fussy and will safely store anything from runes to big piles of coal!

To deposit an item,
simply right-click on the item you wish to deposit in your inventory,

and select the number you wish to deposit from the list.
The banks are free to use,

so making use of them to safely store your extra items is a very good idea!

Rearrange Modes

There are two ways you can rearrange your bank account: swap and insert.
If you have selected the swap option,

then you can 'drag and drop' items in your bank on top of other items,
and the two items will swap positions in your bank.

Using the insert method of rearranging,
you will be able to place objects directly into your bank as you desire,

by simply dragging them into their new position - all other items will be moved accordingly.

Using Notes

Any items which don't normally stack in your inventory and that are trade able,
(such as ores)
can be withdrawn in the form of a note.

This allows large trades without taking up lots of inventory slots.
To choose to withdraw the items as a note,

click the "withdraw as note" button at the bottom of the screen,
otherwise choose "withdraw as item".

Items stored in note form cannot be wielded or equipped,
and cannot be used in most skills.

They can however be sold as notes to shops that will buy the un-noted item,
and can
also have the low and high alchemy spells cast upon them.

-----------------

4.95 OPTIONS

-----------------

Game options

The options menu allows you to change various settings on your character.
Click the
spanner or wrench at the bottom of the player interface,

and the options screen is displayed.

The 1st option is the screen brightness control,
select how bright you want the game window to display,

by clicking one of the brightness buttons.

The 2nd option allow you to toggle between using two mouse buttons to control the game,
or just one.

In single button mode the menu will always appear when you click on more than one item.
Some people find this easier,

and it's also handy if your mouse only has one button!

The 3rd option allows you to turn chat effects on and off,
chat effects are ways of making your chat appear coloured,

or moving onscreen,
this is useful if you want to attract attention.

See the RuneScape 2 FAQ's for more details on what chat effects are availiable.

The next option is to turn split private chat on or off.
If you have split private chat set to off,

then all private messages you receive will happen in the main game text window,
and will be coloured a dark red colour.

If you turn split private chat on,
then the private messages you receive will appear in the bottom left of the main game window,

and will be coloured a light blue colour.
You should try both settings out and see which you like best!

The next 3 options are volume controls for the audio in the game.

Click one of the 4 settings for each to fix the volume,
or turn it off.

Music is the background music that plays for each area of the map,
effect volume deals with all sound effects in the game,

including combat,
skills and magic.

Player controls

The final options menu is the player controls.
Click the running man icon at the bottom of your player interface,

and the player controls screen appears as below.

The 1st option is move speed.
Select either walking or running mode.
Obviously in running mode
you can move across the RuneScape world much quicker,
but your energy level will reduce faster.

See the energy level displayed to the right of the move speed buttons.

Weight also affects your energy level,
if you are equipped with heavy armour,
then your total weight will be increased,

therefore making your energy level reduce even faster.

The auto retaliate button allows you to select whether your character will automatically fight back whilst in combat.

Use this if you want to manually control how your character fights in battle.

The last section are the emote animation buttons,

these are a number of pre-defined actions and emotions your character can perform,

use these to show how you feel to other players in the RuneScape world.

i Hope you now understand the game if you didin't or now what yo forgot.

----------===============----------- ----------------

5.0 FIGHTING

---------===============---- -----------------------

Here you will be learn the Basic things you need to Now,
to Fight.

Also some things for veteran runescapers.

Go look for yourself.

Initiating Combat

To fight a monster or character in the game just point your mouse at your opponent and select the 'attack' option.

Not every character in the game can be attacked,
so if no attack option is visible on the menu,

then the character is probably part of some quest or shop,

and is not designed to be fought.

When you point the mouse at your opponent their relative strength will be indicated next to their name.

In the example here the goblin can be seen to be a level-2 monster.
This is also coloured coded
to help you decide if you should fight or not.

If your opponent is weaker than you the indicator is shown in green,
for equal opponents it is shown in yellow,

whereas for stronger opponents it is shown in red.

In addition to their level some monsters will be stronger if they have weapons or armour.

Some creatures have natural armour or weapons.
A unicorn has a horn and a giant scorpions carapace provide natural armour.

Be wary about attacking monsters which are marked as much stronger than you.
You could easily die before you get a chance to retreat.

Some of the more aggressive monsters - particularly ones which dwell further away from the cities,
or in the dungeon,

will attack you if you just move near to them so be careful where you go to start with!

Combat styles

To select the combat style you are using you will need select the crossed sword icon on the player interface.

Different weapons will have different choices of combat styles.

Choosing 'accurate' will make you more likely to hit your opponent.
Choosing 'aggressive' means that
when you do hit your opponent you are likely to do more damage.
'Defensive' makes your opponent less likely to hit you.

Whereas 'controlled' simply improves all three by a smaller amount.
The combat style you select
also affects which stats you gain experience points in when you kill the monster.

The different combat styles will also have different damage types,
'crush',
'slash' and 'stab',

different monsters will have be weaker against different damage types.

The amount of damage each combat participant has taken is indicated by a horizontal bar above their head.

If your bar is entirely green you are not hurt,
it will turn red as you are hit.

If the bar goes entirely red your character will die.
A number will also briefly appear over you whenever you are hit by your opponent,

indicating how many points of damage you have just sustained.

If you find you are losing the battle,
then you can run away by clicking on the ground.

If you do retreat it's best to keep moving,
as monsters will pursue you and carry on hitting you.

If you run far enough away monsters will give up the chase.

Multiway combat areas

There are some areas where multiple players can fight monsters and multiple monsters can fight players.

These areas are called multicombat areas and a pair of crossed swords will appear in the bottom left corner of the screen
to indicate you are in such an area.

Dying

Dying isn't much fun,
so we recommend you avoid it.
However most players will sooner or later get into a fight
they can't win and end up losing all their hitpoints.
Luckily death in RuneScape isn't permanent and after a few moments
you will reappear in Lumbridge.

You keep all your stats and skills,
BUT you drop the items you are carrying!
It is unlikely you will be able to retrieve them so we recommend you keep as many of your valuables in the bank as possible.

If you haven't attacked any other players recently (see section on player killing) you will also keep your 3 most valuable items.

But you won't keep stackable items like coins,
runes,
arrows,
etc.

Combat skills

The following are the skills you character will use by fighting.

Attack
Advancing this skill increases your chances of hitting an opponent.

Strength
Advancing this skill increases the amount of damage you do.

Defence
Advancing this skill decreases your chances of being hit by an opponent

Hitpoints
The amount of damage you can take in a fight before you die.

Other combat skills are prayer,
magic and ranged,
each of which has its own guide in this manual.

----------------------------------

5.1 PLAYER KILLING

----------------------------- ----

Fighting other players

As well as fighting the computer controlled monsters and characters you can also choose to directly fight with other players.

Fighting against other players is often a lot more dangerous
because they have a much greater variety of ways to fight than monster

Also in multiway combat areas watch out because their friends could be lurking behind a tree ready to finish you off!

Killing other players can potentially give great rewards if they are holding valuable items.

However attacking another player sets your alignment to 'evil',
and a skull appears above your head to indicate this.

As longer as your player is marked with a skull the risk is greater.
If you die you will drop everything you are holding
(you won't get to keep your 3 best items like you normally do!).
If you play for 20 minutes without attacking anyone,

the skull will disappear and the 3 item protection will work again.

Not everybody likes fighting other players,
so to do it you have to go to a special area of the map
known as 'the wilderness'.
Reaching the wilderness is easy,
just keep on walking north and eventually you will get there.

The wilderness is a desolate area full of death and danger.
As well as the extra risk of attack from other players
there are also many nasty monsters.
However the rewards are also greater,
and there is more treasure to be found
if you dare to enter this area.

When you enter the wilderness an icon at the bottom right of the screen will appear to remind you.

This also indicates how far into the wilderness you have gone.

The further north you go the more dangerous the wilderness becomes.

At the south edge of the wilderness you can only fight with players who are a very similar level to yourself,

whereas as you go north the range allowed increases,

and by the north edge players of vastly different abilities can engage in combat and the danger is great!

A further note to those with the power of teleportation - the evil auras that have built up in the wilderness
are blocking teleportation to wilderness levels above 20.

Specific Playerkilling tactics

Mage vs Warrior

WARRIOR

The mage will likely attempt to "hold" the warrior as quickly as possible,

retreat to a safe distance and unleash with some spells.

Since all of the big armour (plate and chain) carries negative bonuses to magical defence,
your best plan is to take off
all your armour or change to more appropriate attire,
such as Dragonhide or studded leather.
Quick thrown weapons are a good way to distract your opponent,
and to poison him / her.

This may give the warrior a few seconds to get in close and hit the mage with his primary weapon.

The mage is not likely to be wearing any armour,
so don't worry about which attack style you are using.

MAGE

The warrior is dangerous at close range and useless at any distance - the simple tactics are to hold the warrior
using one of the bind spells and start firing in damaging spells,
or weaken or confuse your opponent from distance.
If the player gets in close defend yourself using your staff and wait for another opportunity to hold them.

If you're a particularly high level mage,

you may be able to wear some armour while fending off the warriors advances and continue hitting him with your spells.

Do remember that the armour will reduce your ability to cast magic.

Warrior vs Ranger :

WARRIOR

You have excellent defence vs rangers if you're wearing your standard plate set,
so you have little to worry about.

Make sure you have a few cure poison potions to stop the blighter from sticking you with a poisoned arrow and wade
into him with your primary weapon.
If he is using Dragonhide or leather armour,
your best bet is to hack him down with stabbing or slashing weapons.

RANGER

This is your toughest fight.
A warrior has excellent defence vs your projectile attacks,

and your armour is unlikely to stand up to the battering from a well placed blade.
One available option is to run and get some distance between you and your target -
hopefully put a forest between you so you can rain arrows down while he / she is picking her way through the forest.

If the warrior gets close your in trouble.
You could put on some chainmail instead as this offers better protection from the warrior,

but offers no bonus to your ranged attack.
Try to lead the warrior to a busier area;
with any luck the warrior will get distracted and you can retreat to distance.

Poisoning your projectiles is always useful as this can often distract the warrior for a few vital seconds.

Ranger vs mage :

RANGER

Your leather armours give you the best defence vs spells,
so you won't be getting hit that often by his magic.

Fortunately for you,
Robes offer no protection against your projectiles so stand back and turn him into a pin-cushion.

At close ranges use throwing weapons and your shortbows,
as they are quick and effective.
If the Mage tries to run you can pull out your longbow,
with a much greater range than any other weapon
he will have trouble getting out of your reach.
Always use poisoned weapons if you can,
as the extra damage really adds up.

MAGE

Rangers will give you the most trouble,
as your hold spells won't affect their ability to attack you.

In addition,
they often have a very good defence vs magic due to their leather armour,
particularly if they are wearing Dragonhide.

Leather is also fairly strong against Crush attacks,
so your staff won't be too much use up close either.

Your best bet is to just blast away with your best damage spells and hope they hit; forget using your other spells as they won't help.
You'll probably need some cure poison potions,
as arrows/daggers/darts/and javelins can all be poisoned.

If all else fails,
you can always run to the lower wilderness and teleport out.

Weapons Guide

Dagger

The fastest of all the weapons.
A player with a dagger can attack just over twice as fast as a player with a 2 handed weapon.

A daggers principal attack is stabbing though it can be used as a slashing weapon.
Daggers are also useful because they can be used to poison an opponent (members only).

The combination of fast attacks and poison make the dagger an ideal starting weapon in a fight against a ranger or a mage.

Even if they run,
you can get the odd hit in,
hopefully poisoning them before you change to your primary weapon.

Short Sword

A fast stabbing weapon.
Though not as fast as the dagger it does carry significantly more damage.

Can also be used as a slashing weapon.
A short sword is a good all-round weapon and is not too expensive.

Scimitar

The scimitar is a slash only weapon.
Not as flexible as the short sword,
yet deals slightly more damage.

Slashing weapons are good against cloth and leather armour.

Mace

Maces are primarily crushing weapons.
Faster than the Warhammer and more flexible,
RuneScape maces have little pointy studs to stab with.

Crushing is particularly useful against plated opponents.
Maces are also the preferred weapon of the priest as they carry a prayer bonus.
The mace also has a "controlled" fighting option which allows you to spread your experience points between the four combat stats.

Long Sword

The warriors friend.
The longsword is excellent when stabbing or slashing through opponents,
carries a good amount of damage,

and is faster than the 2-hander,
battle axe or Warhammer.
Like the mace,
the longsword has a "controlled" fighting option.

Hatchet

The axe is best used in woodcutting,
but makes a competent weapon if nothing else is handy.

Pickaxe

A pickaxe is best used in mining,
but can be effective if nothing else is to hand.

Spears ( Members only )

The spear is the most flexible of all the weapons in RuneScape,
although it sacrifices speed and power because of this.
It is the only weapon that can stab,
crush or slash effectively,
and can also be used to poison your opponent.

The spear also features the "controlled" fighting option.

Battle Axe

Faster than the 2-handed sword,
yet not quite as much damage.
Another useful wilderness weapon as it does
very effective damage in Slashing and Crushing modes,
which will get through any player armour.

Warhammer

The Warhammer is basically a big lump of metal on the end of a pole.
Not a subtle weapon -
it is basically used to smash through your opponents.
Slightly faster than the 2-handed sword,
and can be used in conjunction with a shield.

Perfect for fights against plated warriors.

Two-handed Sword

The mighty 2-handed sword packs an incredible punch,
but is the slowest of all the weapons,
and cannot be used with a shield.

The damage it deals is considerably higher than any other weapon made of the same material.

Although it cannot be used to stab,
very few pieces of armour can stand up to its mighty power.

Armour Types

The following is a brief guide on the various armour types available in the game,
and their varying strengths and weaknesses.

Helmets

Full helmets offer better protection than medium helmets,
but casting magic or using a ranged weapon is more difficult when using a full helmet,

purely because the characters vision is obstructed.

Mage and priest Robes

Mage robes offer no extra defence against ranged or melee combat,
but do give an advantage to casting and defending against magic.
Priest robes are exactly the same,
but give a bonus to your prayer points rather than magic.

Leather and Dragonhide

Leather tends to be weak armour,
but can now be improved by studding the leather or hardening it.

Leather is more resistant to crushing attacks and weaker against stabbing attacks,
but its flexibility makes it ideal for use by rangers.

The same applies for Dragonhide armour,
although it is much stronger than basic leather.

Due to the magic nature of dragons,
it is very useful when defending against spells and magical effects.

However,
this tends to interfere with the wearers ability to cast magic.

Chainmail

Chainmail is made up of small rings connected together.

It is particularly useful for turning away slashing weapons and absorbing the impact of a "crushing" attack.

Chain is weak against stabbing weapons as small pointy blades can get through the rings.

Chain is quite flexible,
and so does not carry any disadvantages when using ranged weapons.

Mages will tend to find the armour gets in the way slightly of some of the finer spell casting techniques.

Plate

Plate armour is much heavier and stronger than chain,
although rangers and mages find it incredibly difficult to use
in conjunction with firing arrows or spells.
Plate armour is weakest against crushing damage as it cannot absorb the impact as well as it can against slashing or stabbing attacks.

Shields

The two shield types are very similar,
but have slight differences.
Both are excellent defences against slashing attacks,

but the kite shield is weak against stabbing attacks and the square shield is weak against crushing attacks.

Using a shield while casting magic or ranging is very difficult as it obstructs the movement of the user.

---------------------------------

5.5 DUELING

----------

Dueling is only available to RuneScape Members.
.

Both players will then be shown a screen where they can decide how the duel will work.

First of all each player decides which items they would like to risk in the duel.

If you win the duel you get all the items the other player has offered,
but if you lose then the other player gets your offered items.

For instance you might decide that you will wager your ruby against your opponents sword.

If you wish to just duel to see who is strongest there is no need to add any items.

In addition to deciding on the stake there are some options you can set:

No Forfeit:

Fed up of your opponent giving up? Then tick this box and make it a fight to the death!

No Movement:

Don't want your opponent running away all the time? Tick this option.

No Weapons:

Try a bit of unarmed combat.
This option disallows the use of all worn weapons.

No Armour:

Disallows the use of worn armour.

No Ranged:

Don't want someone popping arrows at you? Choose to turn off ranging.

No Melee:

Disables all hand-to-hand fighting.

No Magic:

Disallows the use of magic in this duel.
Good if you want to save your runes for later.

No Potions:

You and your opponent will not be able to drink potions to boost your stats.

No Food:

Don't want your opponent eating food and healing all the time? Choose No Food.

No Prayer:

Disallows the use of prayers in this duel.

No Jewelry:

Some jewelry has magical properties; this option disallows the use of any jewelry.

No Sp.
Atk:

High-end weapons have special attacks,
this option turns these off.

Flower Power

Use only flowers to defeat your opponent,
hope you don't have hay fever.

Obstacles:

Are you a ranger or mage? Choose this option! Obstacles may help you to put a baricade between you and your opponent.

Once both players are happy with the options they should press the accept button.

A final confirmation box will appear.
This clearly lists what the duel will involve and gives you one last chance to check
it is what you expected.
You should read this information carefully,
and then once you are sure you are happy,

press the green "accept" button to begin the fight.
When the duel starts you and your opponent will be taken to one of the arenas.

Unless No Movement is on you can run around in the entire arena.
There may be lots of other players fighting,

but you will only be allowed to attack your opponent.

-------------------

5.6 SPECIAL ATTACKS

---------------------

Special Attacks

Special Attacks are only available to RuneScape Members.
Please subscribe to get this feature.

Some weapons in RuneScape have special attacks available for them.
There are many types of special attacks,
from temporary boosts in stats,
to strikes dealing extra damage.

In the combat interfaces of these weapons you will notice a special attack bar.
If you click on the bar,

then your character will initiate a special attack and use up some of your special attack power.

Different special attacks use up different amounts of power.
If you do not have enough power for a special attack,

then you can't do it.
Your special attack power will slowly restore over time.

Magic LongBow - Powershot

This attack uses the full power of the longbow so that you are guarenteed to hit your opponent.

Magic ShortBow - Snap-Shot

This attack allows you to fire two rapid shots at your opponent,
however the speed reduces your accuracy.

Rune Throwing Axe - Chain-Hit

In a multiway combat area this attack bounces the projectile between several targets,
dealing damage to each of them.

Excalibur - Sancturary

This attack protects you from harm by increasing your defence stat.

Dragon Dagger - Puncture

This attack consists of two quick strikes at your opponent,
with slightly increased accuracy and damage.

Dragon LongSword - Cleave

This attack is more powerful and so inflicts increased damage to your opponent.

Dragon BattleAxe - Rampage

This attack will lower your attack,
ranged,
defence,
and magic stats while boosting your strength stat.

Dragon Mace - Shatter

This attack is much more powerful,
but it also has a reduced chance to hit.

Dragon Spear - Shove

This attack deals no damage to your opponent,
it simply forces them back away from you and stuns them for a short time.

There are a variety of different foods you can cook in RuneScape.
Food is useful because eating it will heal lost hit points.

As you practice your cooking,
your character will get better.
You will burn food less often,

and you will be able to make better food which heals you more.

To cook food you will need to use one of the many stoves which are scattered around the map.

Alternatively if there aren't any stoves nearby you can build a campfire and use that.

A guide to the different foods you can cook is shown below.
In addition to the foods listed there
are also some low-level foods and drinks which can be brought directly from the shops and pubs in RuneScape.

Pottery

Bowls,
pots and pie dishes can all be made by crafting.
Clay is obtained by mining.

To make the clay workable it needs to be softened first.
Use a jug of water with the clay and it will be turned into soft clay.

Take the clay to a potter's wheel.
There is one in the barbarian village.

Use the clay on the potter's wheel and select what object you would like to make.

If you have the correct crafting level you will make an unfired piece of pottery.

Use it on the pottery oven and as long as it doesn't crack upon heating,
you will have
made yourself a nice new piece of pottery.

Leather

Leather is made from cow hides,
so you will need to find a cow field and kill some cows.

Once you have a cow hide,
take it to the tannery in Al Kharid.
You can then craft your leather into leather armour,

boots or gloves.
You will need to get a needle and some thread from a crafting shop.

Right-click the needle in your inventory and use it on a piece of leather,
then as long as you have some thread
the screen below will be opened,
and you will be given a choice of leather objects to make.

Simply click on the item you want to make and if you have enough thread you will craft it.

There are 3 types of leather - normal,
hard and dragon.
You are given the choice of either normal or hard leather
when you get your cow hides converted by the tanner.
Expect to pay a little more for hardened leather.

Dragon leather is made in the same way as normal leather,
except dragon hides are used instead of cow hides.

Kill a dragon to collect it's hide,
then speak to a tanner in the same way,
and you get the option to make dragon leather
if you have any dragonhides in your inventory.

The cost for converting dragonhides is more expensive than hardened leather however.

Use a needle and thread again and a smaller crafting display is shown with the items that you can craft from dragon leather.

Adding studs to a leather body or chaps increases it's strength.
Studs can be smithed from steel,

then used with the leather item to make it studded.
Studs can only be used on normal leather.

Gems

Gems are rare objects you will occasionally find,
they can be made more valuable by cutting them.

Once a gem is cut it can also be used when you are making gold jewelry.

You will need to buy a chisel from a general store or a crafting shop.
Select the chisel from your inventory
and then the gem you wish to cut.

If you find your crafting level is not high enough to cut the gem you may want to make a bit
more pottery or leather to raise your crafting level first.

Holy and Unholy symbols

You need a crafting level of 16 to craft silver bars.
To make silver bars see the mining and smithing guides.

You will need a holy symbol mould which can be bought from a crafting shop.

Then use your silver bar on a furnace and you will be able to make a holy symbol of Saradomin.

You can either sell your holy symbol to the general store or you can make it into an object that makes your prayers last longer.

If you want to use your holy symbol you will need some string.

To make string,
buy a pair of shears from a general store.
Use the shears on a sheep to get some wool.

Use the wool on a spinning wheel to spin it into a ball.
Then you can use your ball of wool on your holy symbol to give it a string.

Finally you will need to get your holy symbol blessed.

This can only be done by taking it to a monk called Brother Jered.
Brother Jered is upstairs in the monastery.

You will need a prayer level of 31 to get in to talk to him.

Runescape members may also come across an unholy symbol mould which can be used to make unholy symbols in the same way and
requires a crafting level of 17 to use.

When they get the mould they will also be told how to get their unholy symbols enchanted.

Jewelery and amulets

To make gold bars see the mining and smithing guides.
You can make amulets,
necklaces and rings from gold bars.

Buy the appropriate moulds from a crafting shop.

Use a gold bar on a furnace and select the object you would like to make.

Putting gems in your gold jewelry can increase the smithing level required quite a lot,

but it also increases the value of what you are making.

All the gold jewelry can be sold for a good price,
but amulets and rings with jewels in them can also be
enchanted at a high enough magic level to give various bonuses.

First of all your amulet will need a string,
this is made in the same way as the string for the holy amulets of Saradomin.

Then it can be enchanted using the magic skill.

Glassmaking

Glassmaking is only available to RuneScape members.

Please subscribe to get this feature.

To make some glass,
you will first need to get some seaweed.
This can be obtained by big net fishing,
or found on Entrana Island.

Heat the seaweed to get soda ash.

Then use a bucket on a sandpit,
to get a bucket of sand.
With both soda ash and sand in your inventory,

you can then use a furnace on either one to make molten glass.

Use this molten glass with a glass-blowing pipe,
which can also be found on Entrana.

You will then be asked what object you would like to make.

Bowstrings

Bowstrings can only be made on a members server.

Please subscribe to get this feature.

You can make bowstrings by using flax on a spinning wheel.

Making bow strings gives a good amount of crafting experience and the bowstrings are useful for making bows (see the fletching guide.)

Battlestaffs

Battlestaff crafting is only available to RuneScape members.

Please subscribe to get this feature.

First get an unpowered orb (see glassmaking).

You will need to enchant the orb.
You can make fire orbs,
earth orbs,
water orbs and air orbs.

Take an orb to a magic obelisk (either the obelisk of air,

the obelisk of earth,
the obelisk of water or the obelisk of fire) and cast the appropriate orb enchantment spell on the obelisk.

This requires a high magic level (see magic guide).
The obelisks are not in easily accesible areas.

Then buy a battlestaff from a staff shop on a members server.
Use the battlestaff with a charged orb to make an elemental battlestaff.

The crafting levels needed to attach the orbs to the staffs are shown in the table at the top of this page.

Crafting Guild

The crafting Guild can be entered by players who have a crafting level of at least 40 and who are wearing a brown apron.

It is located west of Port Sarim and north of Rimmington.

Inside the guild players will find a number of things to help them craft,

including a pottery oven,
potter's wheels,
spinning wheels,
a sink,
a number of gold and silver rocks,
as well as a tanner.

------------------

6.3 FIREMAKING

------------------

Making a fire is useful for cooking food without having to go and find a range.

To make a fire drop some logs on the ground.
Then use a tinderbox with the logs.

You will then attempt to light the fire.

Your chance of lighting the fire depends on your firemaking level.

The following is a list of what levels are required to set fire to different types of wood.

Fishing is a quick way of getting food to heal yourself.
There are various sorts of fishing spots in the game.

You will need to buy the correct fishing equipment to match the fishing spot.

Fishing equipment can be bought from fishing shops.

Typically a fishing spot will have a left click option and a right click option.
These options are net,
bait,
harpoon,
lure and cage.

Click on the correct option and if you have the correct equipment you will attempt to catch a fish.

You can find below the guides to each of the different types of fishing you can do in Runescape.

located to the north of Ardougne.

Inside you will find a number of different fishing spots,
along with a number of ranges and a bank.

Caskets

Players using a big net to fish,
will occasionally find a casket.

These are rare items that usually contain a nice surpise for the lucky fisherman who finds one.

To open a casket and see what is inside,
simply click on it in your inventory.

Caskets can contain many different items including money,
gems,

runecrafting talismans or even rare items like half keys!

-------------

6.5 MAGIC

-------------

Using magic spells

Pointing at the spell book item brings up the magic menu.
From here you can select spells to cast.

This will bring up a screen of all spells available to you within the game.

If the picture of a spell is darkened,

it means that you do not yet have a high enough level to cast it or you do not have the runes in your inventory to do so.

If a spell is lit up on this screen,
then it means that you are a high enough level to cast it and you have enough runes in your inventory.

To cast the spell just click on the spell picture,
and then click on your desired target in the main game window.

Some spells can only be cast on hostile monsters,
other spells can only be cast on yourself or inventory items,

so experiment to see what targets are valid for each spell.

For more information on a spell move your mouse cursor over the spell.

A description of the spell and a list of which are runes are required is shown at the bottom of the window.

Each required rune has 2 numbers shown below a picture of it.

The 1st number indicates how many of that rune you have,
and the 2nd number indicates how many you require.

The numbers will be drawn in red for runes which you do not have a sufficient number of to cast the spell.

Runes can be obtained in a number of ways.
Mages can make their own runes using the runecrafting skill
(see the runecrafting guide).
Other ways to get runes include buying them in magic shops in towns such as Varrock and Port Sarim
or by killing monsters.

Rune Types

To cast spells in the game you need the correct runes.

Each of the runes has a different power,
and is used for a different category of spell.

Information about each of the runes is shown below:

Earth Rune -- One of the 4 elemental runes.
Can be replaced by a staff of earth.

Air rune - One of the 4 elemental runes.
Can be replaced by a staff of air.

Water rune - One of the 4 elemental runes.
Can be replaced by a staff of water.

Fire rune - One of the 4 elemental runes.
Can be replaced by a staff of fire.

Body rune - Required for curse spells.

Mind rune - Required for strike spells.

Cosmic rune - Required for amulet enchant spells.

Chaos rune - Required for bolt spells.

Nature rune - Required for object conversion spells.

Death rune - Required for blast spells.

Law rune - Required for teleport spells.

Soul rune - Required for high level curse spells.

Blood rune - Required for high level strike spells.

Staffs

If you want to cast many spells against opponents without clicking repeatedly,

then you should use a staff.
Staffs have a "recast" option as one of their combat styles.

If you wield a staff and select the combat style menu (the crossed sword icon on the player interface)
you will see a book in the bottom left corner.

Clicking on that will allow you to chose any of the elemental spells you are able to cast and tie them to your staff.

If you then select the "attack with" combat style on your staff you will automatically fight by casting that spell when you enter combat.

Notes about Magic

Heavy armour is very conductive of magic.
Mages will often find themselves more effective against a hand to hand fighter in full armour
than other enemies.

You will notice enemies in full metal armour will be hit hard by spells,
but also wearing heavy metal armour will affect your ability
to cast spells successfully.

The recommended equipment for Mages is light robes,
to allow magical power to flow from you freely.

Sometimes spells will fail to work.
If a spell fails,
you will still gain the experience from casting the spell,

and you will still use the runes required to cast it,

but you will see a 'splash' effect on your opponent showing the failure of the spell.
The higher level spells are more likely to fail,

but as your magic ability improves you will cast spells successfully more of the time.

The Magic Guild

Members who have a magic level of 66 or greater may enter the Magic Guild which is located in Yanille.

Inside the Magic Guild you will find a useful magic shop which sells a variety of runes and staffs for mages,

including the extremely rare soul runes.

There is also a small training area filled with zombies,
as well as magical portals to various other parts of the RuneScape world
all accessible from within this guild.

Enchanting Jewellery

Players of the correct magic level will be able to enchant various items of jewellery that can be bought from shops or other players,

or make them using the crafting skill.

-------------

6.6 MINING

-------------

The mining skill is used to get ores and metals from rocks.
The ores can then either be sold or made into different objects
using the smithing and crafting skills.
To mine,
the only object you will need is a pickaxe.

These can be bought at the pickaxe shop in the Dwarf Mines.
Rocks can be found at the various mining sites in the RuneScape world.

If you right click on a rock,
you will get the option to prospect it.
When you prospect a rock,
you will be told what sort of ores
you are able to mine from it.

To mine a rock simply click the "Mine" option on the rock,
the first on in the list.

If there is an ore in that rock there is a chance you will extract it,
provided your mining is high enough to mine that particular ore.

Ore is quite hard to get out of rocks - it might take quite a few attempts before you meet with success.

As your mining level gets higher it will become slowly easier.
Once someone has mined a rock there will be no ore available
to get from it for a short while; wait a bit and you will be able to mine ore from it again.

Pickaxes

The following is a table showing at what level you can wield the different Pickaxes.
The better the Pickaxe,

the more chance you have of sucessfully mining the ore.

6. 7 PRAYER

------------------------------

Using Prayers

As well as using magic spells you can also pray to the gods of RuneScape to give you an advantage.
To view the available prayers,

select the prayer icon from your interface.

You can see what each prayer does by moving your mouse over the icon.

The list of prayers shown will light up when you are at the appropriate level to use them.

If the icon for the prayer is darkened then you are not at a high enough level to use that prayer.

Each of the prayers can be turned on or off individually.
Whilst a prayer is in use,
your player will be given an advantage depending
on the prayer.

To activate a prayer just left click on it.
The icon will light up to indicate the prayer is active.

Click on the prayer again to deactivate it.

Whilst you have prayers active your prayer-points will slowly drain down to zero.
The more prayers you use at once,

and the more powerful they are,
the faster your points will drain.

When you run out of prayer-points all the effects will be deactivated,
and can't be used again
until you recharge your prayer-points.

To recharge your prayer-points you must find a church in the game,
and left click on the altar to recharge.

You are then ready to use the different prayers again.

To use the prayers for longer,
and to use the higher-level prayers in the game you need to increase your total prayer-points.

You do this by burying bones from monsters you kill.
Take the bones,
and then left click on them in your inventory to bury them.

You need to bury quite a lot of bones to advance a level,
but luckily they are quite easy to come by.

The Monastery

Players with a prayer level of 31 or greater may enter the Monastery located west of Edgeville.

Inside they will find an altar that when prayed at will give a temporary prayer boost.

Also players will be able to get their holy symbols enchanted by Brother Jered,

as well as find some priest robes to take.

---------------

6.8 RANGING

---------------

Ranging Guide

The ranged skill is used for attacking players or monsters from a distance with weapons such as bows and arrows,

throwing knives and many others.

This skill is useful if you prefer to fight a foe from a distance,
using hit and run tactics to avoid damage yourself.

Range is also particularly effective against Mages,
so is a useful skill when fighting magic users.

To use a bow you need to wield it.
You must also wield some appropriate arrows or bolts.

Click to attack a monster or player and you will shoot your arrows/bolts until you do something else or are attacked.

You cannot shoot a player or monster if you do not have a direct line of sight.
(For example,

if there is wall or tree between you and the monster.)

Enemies attacked by ranging will attempt to run directly to attack you in hand to hand combat.

If you shoot at a monster from the other side of a fence or piece of furniture
then the monster will not be able to get to you.
If the monster does not have any ranged attacks
then you can continue to hit it without receiving any damage yourself.

A ranger will use the terrain he is in to gain advantage over an enemy,
as they are relatively weak in hand to hand combat.

A number of your arrows will land on the ground by your target so you can go and use them again,

however some will be lost as they are damaged upon impact.

For further information on the selection of bows available to make please see my fletching guide.

6.9 RUNECRAFTING

---------------------

Runecrafting is used to make different sorts of Runes,
for use in Magic.
Before you can use runecrafting you will need to
complete the Rune Mysteries quest.

Mining rune essences

The location of the source of Rune essence is a closely guarded secret,
so you will need to
find various NPCs around the game world to take you to it.

Once there,
you can click on the large essence stones to mine them with a pickaxe (see Mining).

You then need to take the essences
you have mined to an elemental temple to turn these essences into magical runes.

These temples are hidden throughout RuneScape,
but you can locate them with the help of a runecrafting talisman.

Some examples of talismans are shown below:

Earth talisman - Will help you locate the Earth Temple.

Air talisman - Will help you locate the Air Temple.

Water talisman - Will help you locate the Water Temple.

Fire talisman - Will help you locate the Fire Temple.

Body talisman - Will help you locate the Body Temple.

Mind talisman - Will help you locate the Mind Temple.

These first talismans can be found as fairly common drops from various NPCs,
but the whereabouts of the
higher levelled talismans will need to be discovered by those wishing to use them...

Locating rune temples

To locate each temple,
take the talisman and select the locate option.

The talisman will pull in the direction where the rune temple is located.

Because runecrafting is an ancient skill that has been forgotten until recently,
the elemental temples have become ruined.

When you find the ruins of the temple you are looking for,
use your talisman on these ruins.

This will magically teleport you to a restored version of the temple,

where you will be able to convert your rune essences into rune stones.

When you have finished crafting your runes,
click on the glowing portal to return to the ruins where you entered the temple.

As you advance through the levels of runecrafting,
you will become more adept at turning the raw materials of rune essence into runes.

What this means is that as your level increases you will be able to make more than one rune from each essence you bind.

At higher levels you can make up to 8 runes from a single essence,
depending on the rune you are crafting.

The following table shows what levels are required to runecraft various runes.

The smithing skill is used to convert ores,
obtained by mining,
into weapons and armours.

Many players find that making equipment and selling it to shops and other players is a good way to make money.

Smithing has two stages: smelting and forging.
Smelting converts your ores into bars.

This is done at furnaces.
To convert your ore into bars select an ore in your inventory then left click on a furnace.

Ores / smithing levels chart

You will need different combinations of ores and different smithing levels to make each bar.

Some of these requirements are shown below.
There are even more bars to make at higher levels.

BAR ------------------------------ORES REQUIRED -------------- LEVEL---------------

Bronze 1 Tin ore 1 Copper ore

Iron 1 Iron ore ( 50% chance of succes)

Silver 1 Silver

Steel 2 coal 1 iron

Gold 1 Gold

Mithril 4 Coal 1 Mithril

Adamant 6 Coal 1 Adamantite ore

Runite 8 Coal 1 Runeite ore

--------------------------------- -----------

Forging items

You will need a hammer which can be bought from any general store.

To convert your bars into armour and weapons you must forge them at an anvil.

Select a bar from your inventory,
then select an anvil.

You will be given a screen to decide what sort of equipment you would like to make.

You will be shown how many bars are needed to make types of object.

If this is written in green then you have enough bars to make the item,

if it is written in red then you do not.

The name of the objects will be written in black or white.
If the name is written in white then you have the smithing level required to make it.

If it is written in black then you do not.

Select what you would like to make and provided you have the required smithing levels and number of bars,
your object will be made.

The smithing levels required to forge a metal type are the same as those required to smelt it.

However at the levels given you will only be able to forge the most basic items
in that metal (mostly daggers).
A few levels past these base smithing levels you will be able to make a wider variety of things.

For example at smithing level 4 you will be able
to make bronze short swords.

The gold and silver bars are not used to smith weapons instead they are used in the crafting skill.

Woodcutting

Woodcutting is a skill used to cut logs from trees.
These logs can be used in fletching and firemaking.

To chop down a tree,
just left click on a tree to select chop.

7.0 MEMBERS ONLY SKILLS

--------------------------==== ==========================-------------

Here you can see wich skills are ONLY for the member account users

There are 4 more skills for the member account users.
Here they are.

-----------------

7.1 AGILITY

-----------------------------

Agility is only available to RuneScape members

Agility is a skill that can be used to get over,
up and through various obstacles,
often as a short cut,
or to get into new areas.

Typical examples of where you use your agility skill are to squeeze through a pipe,
swing on a rope over a hole,

or use some handholds to climb up a wall.

Just click on the obstacle you wish to get past,
and if you have the appropriate agility skill level you will attempt it.

You will never fail some obstacles once you reach the appropriate agility level.
On other obstacles it is possible to fall off,

which will cause you to lose hitpoints.

A good way to advance your agility skill is to use the obstacle courses.
By going round the obstacle course in the correct order
you can get an agility experience bonus from the course.

This is in addition to the normal agility skill experience you get from attempting single obstacles.

As well as allowing you to get through various obstacles,
agility is also used to recover energy after running.
The higher the level of agility you have,
the faster you will notice your energy after running refilling back to normal,

letting you run further more quickly.
Players with very high levels of agility will find that they can move quickly around
the world of RuneScape
and that they recover their run energy very quickly.

-------------------

7.2 HERBLORE

-------------------

Herbl ore is only available to RuneScape members.

Herblore is used to make different sorts of potions and poisons.

Before you can use herblore you will need to complete the druidic ritual quest .

( see Quest ( in an later version ) )

Identifying herbs

A lot of the herbs you find in the game will be unidentified.
To be able to use them you will first need to use your herblore skill
to identify them.
Just click on a herb to identify it and if you are high enough level it will then become an identified herb type.

As your herblore level gets higher you will be able to identify more and more different herbs.

The following is a table showing at what level you will be able to identify each herb

The weapon poison can only be used only on certain weapons such as arrows and daggers.

Players can be poisoned by other player's poisoned weapons or by a poisonous npc.

The potion also grants a small immunity so that the drinker cannot be poisoned for a short while.

----------------------------------

7.3 FLETCHING

----------

Fletching is only available to RuneScape members.

Making Bows

To make bows you first need to acquire some wood.

Depending on the type of tree you chop down you can get different sorts of logs.

Next use a knife with the logs to cut them into either a shortbow or a longbow.

To make a bow string you need to find a flax plant and use it with a spinning wheel.

Finally add the string to the bow to complete it.

Rarer types of wood are harder to acquire,
but make better bows which shoot more accurately.

The table below lists the different types of bow you can make.

Different types of bow

Bow Type ---------- Fletching level to make : ------------------------------

Bow Shortbow : Level 5

LongBow : Level 10

Making arrows

To make an arrow-shaft just use a knife with some ordinary logs.
Add a feather to the arrow shaft,

and finally add an arrow-head to complete the arrow.
Arrow heads can either be purchased from the member's archery shop,

or smithed at an anvil.
Better arrow heads will inflict more damage,
but you will require a better bow to fire them.

The table belows lists the different arrow types:

Crossbow Bolt Tips

Players using crossbows can make their bolts stronger by adding tips to them.
To add tips to a bolt,
select the tips in your inventory and then click on the bolt to create tipped bolts.
There are three types of bolt tips available in the game: Opal tips,
Pearl tips and barb tips.

Opal and Pearl tips can be made by using a chisel on cut opals or on oyster pearls.
Barbed tips can only be purchased from the Ranging Guild.
You can find opals by mining gem rocks and you can find oyster pearls while Big Net fishing.

Below is a table showing the level requirements to add tips to bolts.

7.4 Thieving

---------------------------- ------

Thieving is only available to RuneScape members.

The thieving skill is used for a number of different activities.

The main uses of the thieving skill are pickpocketing,
lock picking,
trap disarming and stealing from market stalls.

Pickpocketing

It is possible to steal from various npcs in the game,
it is not possible to steal from other players.

To start off with you can only steal from men,
later on you can steal from farmers,
warriors,
guards and more.

To pickpocket an npc right click on it and select the pickpocket option.

There is a chance that the npc you are stealing from will notice and will attack you.

As your thieving skill increases,
you will get noticed less often.

Levels required to pick the pockets of various npcs

Character --------------- Level Required -------------------------------------

Man Level : 0

Farmer Level : 10

Warrior Level : 25

Rogue Level : 32

Guard Level : 40

Knight Level : 55

Watchman Level : 65

Paladin Level : 70

Gnome Level : 75

Hero Level : 80

---------------------------------- -------------------------

Trap disarming

Certain objects in the game such as chests have traps on them.

If you don't disarm a trap on an item,
you could receive damage or other penalties when trying to use it.

If there is a trap to disarm you will find an option to disarm the trap when you right click on the item.

If you are a high enough thieving level you will then be able to disarm the trap.

Remember traps will become re-enabled again later.

Stealing from market stalls

You can use your thieving skill to take goods from the various market stalls in Ardougne.

To steal from a market stall right click on it and select the "steal from" option.

If you are a high enough level your character will attempt to steal something from it.

Certain characters will try to stop you stealing from market stalls,

so wait until these npcs do not have a line of sight to you or are otherwise distracted/dead.

Thieving levels needed to be able to
steal from the various market stalls.

---------------------=============== ===-----------------------------------

8.0 wildernis

---------------------====== ============---------------------------- -------

Here are some tips before going into the Wildernis

------------------------------

8. 1 Special places

------------------------------

The wilderness is a huge place.
In it,
other players can fight you.
The deeper you go into the wilderness,

the more the wilderness levels grow.
However,
a level 60 can't attack a level 40 in wilderness level 10.

It depends on the wilderness levels.
For example,
a level 35 could attack a level 30 in wilderness level 5,

but not in wilderness level 4.
The wilderness is mostly used for pking,
which is player killing.

There are many places to train in the wilderness.
There are greater and lesser demons,

although a better place to fight lessers would be karamaja.

There are skeletons,
rats,
spiders,
ghosts,
zo mbies and much more.

The graveyard area or the hobgoblins mining site are two good places to train.

There are some places in the wilderness that you can check out.

The bandit camp is a place where you can train and make pizzas easily.

The "death castle" where there are runes and dark warriors.

There are many more places.
There is a big bones spawning place in about level 28 wilderness,

north of Varrock.
It is guarded by skeletons.
The big bones there spawn fast
(about 1 every 10 seconds) and there are about 5 spots to get them from.

In p2p,
the wilderness continues on.

There are rogues,
pirates,
giants,
and more.

It's a very good place to train,
but very dangerous as well.

The Lava Maze is also a very good place to train.
Located at around level 40 wilderness,

this huge place has many different types of creatures.

My personal favorite is to fight the black knights there,
as there are plenty of them there.

------------------------------ --

8.2 Pking

------------------------------- -

PKing is player killing,
which is when you go out in groups or alone to kill other players.

It is much easier to pk when in a group,
especially when most of the group members are archers.

Most pkers are pure,
I will have a separate section on that.
Most pkers have 2-handed weapons.

The thing you want to do is kill your opponent in 3 hits or under,
so they won't be able to escape.

Like I mentioned before,
some good places to pk is varrock wilderness,
the edgeville mining site,

bandit camp and death castle.

The death castle you should be careful about because usually what happens is one person attacks you while the other keeps closing the doors.

When pking,
you should to bring a powerful weapon,
your armour,
and food.
Make sure to have plenty of food.

Lobsters and swordfishes are good to take.
Some food such as cakes and stuff are not as good as you think.

Sure they heal well,
but they are in pieces,
so it will take you longer.

Another item you might want to keep when pking is strength potions.

They raise your strength by 8 points temporarily,
and each potion has 4 doses.

Make sure to choose a world with less lag.

----------------------

8.3 who to PK

-------------------------

Make sure you choose whom to pk wisely.
There is no point in pking a miner mining at the edgeville mining site.

I mean they probably have no skull,
and have 3 items,
so you will not be able to get anything other than coal.

You probably won't be able to pick up the coal as your inventory will be full of food.
Also,

you will basically be wasting your food.
Same thing goes for pkers with no skulls,
don't attack them.

Attack people with skulls,
people who are wearing rune stuff,
and try to attack people low on health.

Don't be fooled by a level 50 with nothing but a rune weapon or bow.
They use that as a cover up,

especially when you don't have a skull.
Once you attack,
they will take out their full rune and shred you to pieces.
:)
Also in a group,
try to run from the person your fighting to the archer.
If there is more than one archer,
well...
Good luck!

--------------

8.4 Tips On Picking

---------------

The best way to run away is to run diagonally,
it is much faster and the other person will have a hard time catching you.

Make sure to click on the map instead of on the normal screen.
To catch someone,
you can click a few times in front of him/her,

then on him/her (thanks to souper).
Left clicking is much easier than right clicking.

Often you will just stand there for a few seconds,
or just go the opposite way,
messing you up.

To left click catch,
MAKE SURE your opponent is very close to you.
As in 1 square away,
or in the same spot as you.

The level of the opponent also matters.
He has to be your level,
or 4-5 levels lower in order for you to left click catch.

Otherwise it will act as if you're just walking to the spot you clicked.
Right click is basically on timing.

Many Pkers still haven't mastered the right click catching.
Doing it a few times in a row seems to make it easier,

but still you will stop a few times.

Another wise thing to do when pking is to turn privacy on,
as some enemies might have you added,
and they can spot you when pking
(thanks to souper again).
You can always heal at the Monastery,
so if you're in the edgeville mining site,

and you need to heal and there are no pkers,
just go get healed by the monks instead of wasting more food.

When in a group,
help your partner out by shooting the enemy,
or using magic.

If you have prayer,
of course use that too.
You should probably stay south of the fight your friend
and someone else is having.
Mainly because if the enemy runs away,

they will most likely run south to get out of the wilderness,

then you can attack them.
Or if you friend is almost dying,

and he/she runs,
you can take on the enemy to give him some time.

Also,
if you press F1,
it lowers the graphics quality,

and also lowers lag (thanks to Eric).
"And while in F1 mode,

if you get the right camera angle with the person you're chasing,

you can sometimes get him to be right-click attackable,

even if he's ton's of levels below you." (Thanks to Eric again).

----------------------------- ===================--------------------- ----

8.5 Training Spots

-----------------------------== =================----------------------- --

There are many places to train in runescape.
IMO,
the most important thing you have to keep in mind is to take on something
you can beat very easily.
When you start out,
just fight chickens,
rats,
imps,
etc.
Maybe goblins.

There are many level 13 goblins in goblin village.
Once you are level 20-30,
fight level 18 warriors in al kharid,

dwarves or barbarians.
Once you're in the 40s-50s,
I would fight guards (level 28).
Edgeville has guards,

and you can heal yourself at the monastery.

Later on,
you can fight jail guards or giants.
Giants drop big bones,
roots,
runes and a good amount of money.

They are good creatures you can fight for items.
Some people fight lesser or greater demons just because they can beat one or two.

That's not very wise IMO.
You not only waste a lot food,
but you gain exp slower.

Some good training spots: -Guards in Edgeville.
-Men in Edgeville.
-Jail guards in the jail east of draynor village.
-Dark wizards in the wilderess (the ones near varrock are usually taken).
-Giants in wilderness or edgeville dungeon.
 -Skeletons in many places.
-Dwarves near or in the dwarven mines.
-Warriors in Al Kharid.
-Hob Goblins in mining site (wilderness).
 -Zombies in Graveyard (wilderness).
-Black knights in Lava Maze (wilderness).
-Goblins in goblin village.
-Cows in the cow pen behind the windmill
(not the one north of the toll gate).
Chickens.
Both in f2p and p2p,
wilderness is the best place to train.

They usually have many creatures in groups to fight,

and many different types.
Most people don't train in the wilderness thinking of Pkers.

One of the best places to train is the hob-goblins' mining site.

Take three items with you,
and make sure you don't have a skull.
That way if you die,
you won't lose anything.

You gain experience very fast when you fight them.

(Thanks to souper and jet0r for some of this info.) In members,
it is MUCH easier to train.

Most of the places are free to train at,
and there are plenty of spots.

The druids are good,
mountain dwarves,
pirates,
dark wizards,
and much more.

Try some of the same places you used to train at in a p2p server.

You will notice that most of the places used in f2p training is empty in p2p servers.

To begin,
you will need to either buy or smith a bronze medium helmet and an iron chain mail.

Equip these,
and head toward the monastery near the dwarven mines.
Here,

They talk about needing some cabbage from Draynor Manor,

and how any other cabbage would ruin the potion forever.
With this information in mind,
go back down the ladder,

and attempt to enter the Great Hall with the Black Knights in it.

You will be halted by a guard,
who say they will attack any visitors who come in.
Go in,

and equip your regular armor.
You will be attacked by the Black Knights,
but slowly make your way to the other end,

by fighting or running.
At the other end,
go up the stairs,
followed by the ladder,
and go to the north to find another "odd looking wall."
Press it,
and use the cabbage with the hole in the room to ruin the secret potion (the hole leads down into the cauldron.)
If a message pops up that says you have ruined the secret potion,

they can be purchased at the Varrock Clothing Shop.
Go to Karamja,
and you can buy Rum in the liquor shop there.

and he will pay you.

Do this job,
but before you go to tell him you have finished,
slip the rum in there to.

Now,
talk to him,
get paid,
and return to Port Sarim.

The bananas sold were shipped to the Food Store right there in Port Sarim.

Go into the store,
and you should be able to see the crate in the back.

Try to go through the door back there,
and the shop owner stops you,

saying that if you want to help,
you need to be wearing a white apron.

Do so,
and go back and search the crate to get your rum.

Take the rum to Redbeard Frank,
and he will give you a key to a chest in Varrock's Blue Moon Inn.
Go there,
and open the chest,
and you will find a note that tells you to dig behind the bench in Falador Park.

There,

who will not let you dig behind the bench.

Then you can dig behind there to claim the treasure.

and promises to notify Romeo.
Go get cadavaberries from the forest to the southeast of Varrock,

She drinks it and falls into the "death-appearing" sleep.

Go talk to Romeo to finish the quest.
It turns out he didn't get
Father Lawrence's message and Juliet was buried alive.

This quest requires you and a friend to both play,
in order to get both halves of the shield.

To start out,
talk to the museum curator,
who will be upset about the missing shield.

It was broken and one half was taken by the Phoenix Gang,
and the other by the Black Arm Gang.

One friend must join Black Arm,
and the other Phoenix.

Phoenix Gang Half - Search through the books in the library at Varrock Castle.
You should find one book about the Shield of Arrav.

Talk to the librarian,
and he will say to talk to the Baeraek.
Do that,
and give him 20 gp to tell you the location of the hideout.

Talk to the leader in the hideout to get a task that you must complete to join.

He says you must go into the Varrock Blue Moon Inn and kill Johnny the Beard,
and bring back the intelligence report he carries.

Talk to Katrine,
and she will give you a simple task to complete to gain access to the hideout.

You must steal 2 Phoenix Bows from the Phoenix Gang Armory.

Get your key from a friend,
and go up into the armory.

If you try to pick something up,
you will be attacked by the Weapons Master (lvl- 25.)
Kill him,
take two crossbows,
and return to your hideout.

Give them to Katrine and she will let you in.
Your half of the shield is on the second floor in a cupboard.

Let one player have both halves of the shield,
and go talk to the curator.

He will thank you and give you two certificates (one for you,
and one for your friend,)
that can be exchanged for money by the king.
(NOTE: You cannot keep both,
it will only let you exchange one.)

Difficulty - 7/10

Requirements - Lvl.
10 cooking,
Lvl.
15 smithing,
withstand Ice Giant

Rewards - Fairly high amount of smithing xp

Quest Points - 1

Speak with the squire in the bottom floor of White Knight's Castle in Faldador,

and he will explain the terrible situation he is in; he lost his knight,

Sir Vywin's favorite sword sword,
a legendary sword that has been in the family for years.

Now,
you must make a new one,
but the fine crafting can only be done by the legendary Imcando Dwarves.

Go to Varrock and go into the castle's library.
Speak with Reldo there,
and ask what can be done.

He says that the Imcando Dwarves have a love for redberry pie.

Make the redberry pie,
and find the only remaining Imcando Dwarf in the peninsula to the south of the path
connecting Rimmington and Port Sarim.

Give him the redberry pie,
and speak with him,
and he will say he needs a picture of the sword to continue.
Return to the squire for help.

He says that Sir Vywin has a picture of himself holding the sword in the upstairs cupboard.

If you attempt to take the picture when no one is talking to him,
however,

he will stop you from getting it.
So get a friend to talk to Vywin,
and slip out with the picture.

Return to Thurgo,
and he asks you to gather materials: two iron bars,
and one blurite ore.

The iron bars are simple,
as you just need to mine a few iron and smelt them.

For the blurite ore,
you must mine back in the dungeons of the ice giants and ice warriors.

Go down the ladder near his house,
and work your way toward the back.
Hopefully,
many other players will be training,
and you can mine some ore from one of the rocks in the corner.

Once you have the ore,
return to Thurgo,
and he will smith you a brand new sword.
Take it back to the squire to complete the quest.
